Blustery beach engagement shoot

Emma and Darren are getting married next month at the wonderful Southwood Hall. I made a trip to Norfolk to catch up with them and visit their venues –  we took the chance to take some photos on their favourite beach, Winterton. It was a typical blustery January day, but the approaching stormy clouds made for a beautifully dramatic backdrop. I can’t wait to shoot their wedding next month – Southwood Hall is lovely venue – hopefully the weather will be a little calmer!

A Crisp Winter Wedding

Clare and Chris were married at the stunning Great Fosters in Egham, Surrey. The day was bright and brisk, perfect for a Christmassy Winter wedding. Clare looked radiant in a gorgeously elegant lace detail wedding dress, the gold colour theme of the day a perfect compliment.  The day started in the Bride’s quarters, with her mum and bridesmaid getting their hair and makeup done. Sunlight streamed into the room, and the girls sipped on champagne. A short walk across the courtyard and into the main building for the intimate ceremony – which was held in a sun flooded Orangery, followed by a drinks reception in the adjoining Painted Hall.  An absolutely amazing dinner was served in the 14th century Tithe Barn – which was decorated with sparkling Christmas trees. Some pretty emotional speeches were followed by a night of dancing – the perfect end to a wonderful day.

Wedding Dresses

So this weekend I had an appointment to try on some wedding dresses. I took along my sisters and my Mum to help out. I think I have must have tried on around 5 or 6 with varying degrees of success! I wanted to ‘keep my mind open’ so tried on dresses from the lacey to the slinky to one that looked a little like a giant feathery bird (which was actually surprisingly nice on!). At the end of the session I had whittled it down to two quite different dresses. Luckily I don’t need to make a decision right now as my mother is an absolutely amazing dressmaker, so I am able to have a bespoke dress handmade for me. Yesterday we sat down over coffee to chat and do some sketches. The next step is for Mum to make a toile and for me to have some fittings! Perhaps we can combine the two dresses…. oh and some fabric shopping – The Berwick St Cloth shop and Borovick Fabrics no doubt.

The session also made me realise how important it is for a wedding photographer to get some really lovely shots of the wedding dress. Not only photographs of the dress on the bride, but some detail shots of all the buttons, lace, net, appliqué and diamantes, that can be so easily missed or taken for granted. I know, from Mum, how many hours go into making wedding dresses so I’m determined to make sure each of my brides get a ton of beautiful shots of every detail.

Getting married in 2013?

Like me, you may be tying the knot this year. If so, then the Wedding Planning tools, available to download for FREE from www.whimsicalwonderlandweddings.com are a must! There is no time like the present to ‘get to’ with planning and organising – your big day will come around in no time! My favourite tool of course is the ‘Photographer Checklist’ and remember you need to book your photographer in ASAP! (see the ‘Wedding Planning Timeline Checklist’  ) I am perusing this at the moment – yelp, my wedding is in May! Thanks to Lou at WWW for creating these tools, brilliantly clear and concise. Download them HERE from WWW.

Below, my engagement ring from TOMBLAND JEWELLERS in Norwich, Norfolk. I recommend them to anyone wanting a friendly and helpful service.

2012

On this rather miserable New Year’s Eve afternoon I thought I would share some highlights of my 2012 with you. I’ve had a great year and have been lucky enough to shoot some truly lovely couples and their beautiful weddings. Each one so brilliantly different and special, it’s been a real joy. And now with my own wedding In May the below are a real inspiration!
